Right of picture at the Mansaf Gathering in Madaba July 4th, 2009  Zaid is great help100% supporter

it took 33 years to build  madaba church 1880-1913 see the church in the middle top of the hill

Al' Uzaizat mud and stone homes was build to replace the caves they used when they moved from Karak 1800s

closer look of the church and the School house to the left of the photo

Have you noticed the stone walls, Sanacils like a chain to protect the families and to
prevent attackers going through easily it was a way of life robbing other tribes!

mud homes were built top of the hill away from the valley to make it harder for attackers to reach them
and they can see them from a distance it's like a castle idea sitting high

Al' Uzaizat Christian School for all ages including females
Al' Uzaizat were very educated at early age by priests from England, France and as far as Russa most preist learned the beduin ARabic language by living between Al' Uzaizat and teaching them the foreigh languages, and th most recognized preist was father Jean Panfili who blessed and opened the Madaba Church for services on 12/22/1913

Large four families tent as you see it's divided
women are cooking and mens helped as well when making Mansafs

Closer look at one of the large 4 section tents or Bait El' Shaer which is made from the animal skin
it seems to me that they used on side for it for cooking and eating during the day and for sleeping at night!

Al' Uzaizat member look from Al' Sawalha cleaning and skinning the lamb ready for making Mansaf, it a big day then and it's a big day today for people to have Mansaf

As you noticed the men are helping with the cooking especailly when it comes to Mansaf it tast better when men help with coooking!!!! ***

Members of Al' Uzaizat eating mansaf with the traditional way dig with your hand no forks or spoons or knives!
in the modern days we learned that 7-10 people can sit on each large size mansaf with approx 10 KG of lamb meat

Madafet Al' Uzaizat making real arabic coffee and singing or dancing or reading and writing poets
we have many famous poets in the family if you read other webpages.

Womens are watching over  El' Jameed sauce and meat to prepare the Mansaf  it take 3-5 hours to do good mansaf!
it's made from lamb meat, rice, home made shrak bread and laban sauce
bread first soacked with laban then rice, then meat then eat, you add more laban to make it juciy and able to make mouth full size balls of bread, meat and rice you put it on your thumb and flick it into your mouth!

Al' Uzaizat women are drying the freshly made Jameed.  they put it on top of the tent to protect from sand and pests or from their animals to eat it!  this is their annual supplies when making mansafs.  Jameed made from goat or cow milk, they add flour and heavy salt to preserve and mix it well until become very hard dough, they dry it naturally in the sun as you see in the picture for 2-3 weeks.  you need 10 pcs. of hard jameed to do the sauce, and to do the sauce all what yo need is a clay bowl with water and keep mixing by hand until become milk again then you cook with the meat!

It may not be an earth quake, it's a large stones to hold the tents as you can see the ropes before puting the tent up
it gets too windy in the hills and the desert !

Al' Uzaizat traditions is to feed the children before the adults can eat, put them away women so we can eat in peace!
look at these kids they are well fed, and look very healthy!  at age 7 female children cover their hair with a Shall as you see in the photo.  I noticed in the side of the tent is piece of hand made wool cloth to make up the side of the tent it seems that when you have too much wool from the lamb or the goat what will you do with it beside making cloth!

Rich Uzaizat!  can you see the gold on the little girl, in the old days they hide the gold on children to fool the enemy!  can you see this large cross Al' Uzaizat were honored to remain Christian after Prophet Mohamad message in 629 during mu'tah battle.  full story in the inside pages written in Arabic and English

Another young female with the large cross!  It seems they make it large so you can see them from a distance that they are Uzaizat!  it's like a trade mark...Several families who converted to Islam back in 629 A.D. still put the cross on their tents or homes as of today...my father told me they are beni Slaib or Asherate Slaib in Jordan.  Cross mean Slaib in Arabic!

Al' Uzaizat always liked to pose for pictures even today!  they are full of smiles
Early morning gathering!  can you see the water bucket is hanging above the well  this house was built on a cave you can see the large door to the left!

closer look at the sanacil or the stone parthway you can see madaba church in a distance to the left and the school!

Family protrait the kid is not crasy about it, screwed up the rest they get restless!  you know why
the lense does take time to click not like today in seonds and it's done then you have to wait and wait until the lense flicker! beware if you blink....and you will look blind.  99.9999% didn't smile because of the slow lense action!

Again too much gold to show off!

the gold keeper or the safe made from lamb skin look at this gold
visit Akram sawalha rare photo you have much clear picture!

distance photo of Madaba in early 1900

Archeiology camel ride diging for madaba treasures!  look like the man is from England!

It look like Al' Pasha ......from Karak city is visiting Madaba
2 soldiers in the back with Uzaizat memebrs!  Some people hated this Pasha!  was not nice to father panfilil and father Anton abed Rabbo flee after jailing him!  I think I check the story again!

Again Al' Pasha.....is posing with the priests and Uzaizat memebrs I can see in the back father Panfili, and father Anton abed Rubbo

Some of the pics are new to me,but the source is the same, The Dominican fathers archives in Jerusalem. I need a bit more time to look up some of the names of the Uzaizat who are in these rare pics. But I have a comment on pics No. 35: (from the Zaid Shihadeh Fahiem Al' Twal Al' Uzaizat pics; this  pic (No.35) has 2 young men on the right is Eskandar Khalil Sawalha (my father who looks like my son Bashar Akram Sawalha when of the same age. And on the left is Mikhaeel Odeh Saleh Sawalha who also looks like his grand son Amer Alfred Sawalha).  By the way I have seen the Wooden Box camers (3) that took these photos in Jerusalem at the Dominican's and since the love of Camers could be ruuning in your blood? I will try to get a picture of these ....Good luck Akram Eskandar Sawalha. 6/19/2009
